Hispanic Heritage Month Special Edition

Contacto Magazine, a Hispanic monthly publication established in 1994, will publish Fiesta Latina Part 3 on September 19, 2009 to celebrate the Hispanic Heritage Month. Fiesta Latina is a Spanish-language editorial project that contains feature articles about Hispanic contributions to the United States in the arts, music, film, theatre, science, business and many other fields.

This year, the Fiesta Latina's first two issues were printed in July and August. Our readers have been enjoying articles about national groups such as Mexicans, Central Americans, Cubans, and Colombians in the United States, as well as current affairs like the confirmation of Sonia Sotomayor as U.S. Supreme Court's Justice; Senator Mel Martinez's decision to leave the U.S. Senate; what is going on with the immigration reform; NASA's Hispanic astronauts; Latinos in Hollywood with profiles of Cameron Diaz, Salma Hayek, Eva Mendes, Penelope Cruz, and filmmaker Guillermo del Toro; and how Hispanics helped Founding Fathers win the American Independence War against Great Britain.

In Fiesta Latina Part 3, Contacto will publish feature articles on Hispanic demographics and Hispanics/Latinos as consumers and Internet users, as well as profiles of prominent scientists, including Nobel Prize winners, artists, writers, filmmakers and musicians.

Every year, the United States celebrates the National Hispanic Heritage Month beginning on September 15 and ending on October 15 as a recognition of the culture, contributions and heritage of Hispanic Americans. Also, the months of September and October cover a wide range of independence days for Latin American countries. Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua all celebrate their independence on September 15. Mexico celebrates its independence on September 16, Chile on September 18 and Belize on September 21t. El Día de la Raza (Columbus Day) is observed on October 12.
