Forbes: America's 400 Richest
Are All Billionaires
This year for the first time, everyone on Forbes magazine's annual
list of the 400 richest Americans is a billionaire.
Microsoft founder Bill Gates tops the roster with a net worth of
$53 billion. His business partner Paul Allen ranked 5th with $16
billion.
Investments expert Warren Buffett follows with $48 billion, though
that will soon go down. Earlier this year, Buffett promised to give
$37 billion to charity, most of it to the Bill and Melinda Gates
Foundation.
Casino magnate Sheldon Adelson was in third place, after expanding
his Las Vegas gambling franchise into Asia in 2004. Forbes says
when he opened his $265 million casino on the Chinese island of
Macau, he regained his entire investment in just a year.
Larry Ellison, Oracle's president and CEO, is in 4th place with
$19.5 billion, followed by Michael Dell, founder and chairman of
Dell Inc., in 9th place with $15.5 billion.
Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin took out 12th and 13th
places.
Home-decor and media magnate Martha Stewart dropped off the list,
after losing some $400 million in the past year.
