Members of the Goya Foods Unanue family and other Goya executives will join Governor Timothy M. Kaine as well as Virginia’s business, political and community leaders on October 11th, to mark a historic event for the company, which celebrates it’s 70th anniversary this year.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new Virginia facility, which joins 13 other Goya facilities in the US and abroad, will officially launch Goya’s enhanced presence in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions.

Located in Prince George County, south of Richmond, Goya Virginia is a 109,000-square-foot warehouse and will serve as a strategic distribution hub for Virginia, and North and South Carolina, where there has been a significant increase in the Hispanic population.

“Establishing this important distribution hub in Virginia demonstrates our commitment to the growing Hispanic market,” said Peter Unanue, Executive Vice President of Goya Foods Inc. “Including this facility, we are adding more than 1 million square feet in distribution facilities and are investing globally over the next five years. We will continue to grow and distribute quality products to our clients and consumers in this region.”

Goya has procured 18 acres of land in the Southpoint Business Park, allowing for further expansion possibilities. “Our commitment to this region goes beyond this distribution center,” stated Robert Unanue, President of Goya Foods Inc., “we are engaging in an aggressive advertising and marketing campaign and we have a skillful sales force that works directly with our retail partners to ensure the proper product mix for the consumer. We know that our presence here will grow.”

Goya Virginia’s General Manager, Luis Ramos, a 15-year Goya veteran, has a similar vision for the Virginia facility. “I look forward to serving as this region’s connection to the tastes of Latin America,” says Mr. Ramos. The state of Virginia is rolling out the red carpet to welcome Goya to industrial Southpoint Business Park. “We’ve been greeted with open arms here. Goya is happy to make Virginia our home,” continues Mr. Ramos.

In its first ever ranking of the best states for business, Forbes.com ranked Virginia number one.

“We are honored and proud to welcome Goya’s new facility to the Commonwealth,” said Governor Tim Kaine. “Goya’s presence not only provides jobs and business opportunities, but also ensures the availability of the best in Latin American cuisine.”

In commemoration of the official Goya ribbon-cutting, Goya Foods is donating 5,000 pounds of food to the Prince George County Food Bank and Clothing Closet.
