CONTACTO Magazine was established on July 1, 1994 in Burbank, California,
as a publication aimed at the Hispanic community of Los Angeles area. In
the planning process of the magazine, founders decided to address to a very
special reader eager to read a Spanish-language high-quality journalism
similar to the one he/she used to read in Latina America and Spain, before
becoming an immigrant in the United States.
About 43 million Hispanics live in America with a purchasing power of more
than $700 billion. Sixteen million Hispanics access the Internet on a regular
basis, a cyberpopulation that outpaces those of Mexico, Spain, Argentina
and Colombia. Greater Los Angeles, where CONTACTO circulates once a month,
is the largest Hispanic market in the United States with a population of
7.811,100 - 44.5% of L.A. total population.
Since 1994, CONTACTO publishes exclusive interviews and in-depth news features
of interest to Latinos who like to read reliable publications respecting
their intelligence, education, and culture.
Once a year, CONTACTO also publishes a special edition on Hispanic contributions
to the United States in the mass media, entertainment, arts, culture, business,
education, community affairs, armed forces, science and other fields, as
well as special issues on Latin food, Latin music, autos, and health care.
Since 1994, some of our features and editorials have
been reprinted or quoted by well known publications, including El Nuevo
Herald (Miami, USA), ABC (Spain), El Nacional (Venezuela), Proceso (Mexico),
and others. Editors of CONTACTO Magazine have been interviewed by Los Angeles
Times, CNN, La Opinión, El Nuevo Herald, KMEX (Univisión),
KVEA (NBC, Telemundo), KWHY (NBC, Telemundo), and other media as reliable
sources on U.S. Hispanic's and Latin America's issues, and on U.S. national
and foreign policies as well.
